Job Overview

A box office intern at Lakewood Theater plays a crucial role in supporting the overall functioning of the theater, particularly in managing ticket sales and providing customer service. Our box office interns contribute to the success of our summer theater by ensuring efficient ticketing processes, providing excellent customer service, and supporting the overall operations of the box office. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience in the theater and entertainment industry. Interns will work with Lakewood’s box office manager and staff to assist with administrative duties, provide customer service support, and will have the opportunity to get involved with working at evening shows and the afternoon matinees of each production.

Compensation

  • $100/ week stipend for living expenses

  • Included housing for 22 weeks (within walking distance to the theater)

  • Complimentary tickets (9) to all 2024 Lakewood productions

Responsibilities

  • Ticket Sales - The primary responsibility is selling tickets to patrons either in person, over the phone, or online. This involves handling cash transactions, processing credit card payments, and ensuring accuracy in ticket orders.

  • Customer Service - Interacting with patrons and addressing their inquiries or concerns is a key aspect of the role. Interns may assist with resolving ticketing issues, providing information about the plays, and ensuring a positive customer experience.

  • Box Office Operations - Assisting in day-to-day box office operations, including opening and closing procedures, managing will call tickets, and coordinating with other departments to ensure smooth operations during performances.

  • Promotions and Marketing Support - Collaborating with the marketing team to distribute promotional materials, provide information on upcoming shows, and support marketing initiatives to increase ticket sales.

  • Reporting and Record Keeping - Generating reports on ticket sales, attendance, and other relevant metrics. Interns may be responsible for maintaining accurate records and assisting in the analysis of sales data.

  • Assisting with Events - Supporting the coordination and execution of special events, the live productions themselves, or other activities related to the shows. This could involve helping with logistics, ushering, or managing the ticket windows on show nights/ matinees.

  • Learning Box Office Software - Becoming proficient in the use of box office software and ticketing systems employed by the theater is important. This includes understanding how to process transactions, print tickets, and troubleshoot technical issues.

  • Team Collaboration - Collaborating with other members of the box office staff and different departments within the theater to ensure effective communication and a seamless experience for patrons.

  • Flexibility - Being adaptable and ready to handle unexpected situations, such as changes in schedule, technical glitches, or customer concerns, is crucial for success in this role.
