Job Overview

Our Theater Technicians are vital behind-the-scenes contributors at Lakewood, responsible for ensuring the technical aspects of a theatrical production run smoothly. You will work closely with Production Directors, your Technical Director, and other technical staff to bring the creative vision to life. Your role will include collaborating in the construction and assembly of sets, ensuring they meet design specifications and are safe for performers and crew. Our techs must have a strong understanding of each design, the build, load-in, and strike process of all sets. During rehearsals and performances, you may be called to manage cues and transitions, ensuring that all technical elements synchronize seamlessly with the overall production. This role demands a combination of technical experience and expertise, creativity, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, contributing significantly to the success of live theatrical productions.

Compensation

  • $15/ hr

  • Included housing for 22 weeks (within walking distance to the theater)

  • Complimentary tickets (9) to all 2024 Lakewood productions

Responsibilities

  • Ability to take and carry-out orders from Technical Director, communicate effectively with all other staff, and collaborate on ideas in a helpful and constructive manner.

  • Load-in, set-up, operate, strike and organize/ store all set materials.

  • Perform minor repairs to set during rehearsals and productions, as well as equipment as needed.

  • Assist as needed with other projects associated with Lakewood during down weeks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of some of the equipment, materials, practice, and tools used in theatrical lighting, sound, rigging, and scenic production.

  • A competent understanding and preferably experience using most basic workshop equipment, including drills, table saw, chop saw, etc.

  • College degree or technical certification and experience preferred or currently carrying out course work in the area of technical theater or similar.

  • General understanding and appreciation for the performing arts in our community

  • Full range of physical mobility including walking, sitting, standing, stooping, climbing, carrying, reaching, and manual dexterity is required

  • This position requires availability for working shifts during nights and weekends
