Hello, Health and Welfare, I'd...Yes, I Can Hold
Farce
Written by Michael Cooney
Directed by Jeff Quinn
Starring Stan Pinnette, Mark Nadeau and Jayson Smith with Nicole Beaulieu, MJ Clifford, Jen Flannery, Dianna Gram, Bob Keniston, Juan Lavelle-Rivera & Jeff Quinn
Eric Swan (Stan Pinnette) has duped the welfare authorities for years by claiming every type of benefit for the innumerable people he claims live at his address. This scam nets him tens of thousands tax-free. Just when he decides to kill off many of the imaginary recipients because matters are getting a bit too risky, welfare investigators show up. Some make inquiries about what is going on while others offer additional benefits for which he has not yet applied. To outwit the investigators, Eric enlists help from his real lodger, Norman (Mark Nadeau), and from his Uncle George (Jayson Smith), who also volunteers to convince his nephew’s wife that he is not a transvestite. Nabbed in the end, Eric is offered a job in the agency’s fraud investigation unit because he knows all of the tricks! This is an encore presentation at Lakewood first performed in 1998. It is just so darned funny we had to do it again. Some original cast members will be reprising their roles.
