RIGHT ON SCHEDULE
It is the second month of the year and this is my second
Newsletter. I am right on schedule. OK, my intentions were
better than my actions. Jeffrey had to nag me a
little...Actually I was engrossed in a romantic, historical
novel set in the snow and wilderness of upper New York
State--damsels and bare chested men--I was snug under my
quilts with thirty-five pounds of black cats draped along
my legs--and the telephone rang. For a second I had no idea
what the sound meant.
I hope you will lose yourself in our 2008 Season.

We met for the last time at the Quinn home in the snow and
wilderness of Cornville. Susan, Midge Merrill, and I have
never been damsels in distress, not on our best--or
worst--days, and, thankfully, there were no bare-chested
men
present. Two final plays were read. There was the promise
of Susan's wonderful macaroni and cheese. Calenders were
consulted, dates were debated, and pencils were poised as
the nine shows were
selected. It was Monday January 21st, the official
commemoration of Martin Luther King, Jr--so you might say
that this is the DREAM SCHEDULE for 2008.

We will offer not one, not two, but three musicals this
season. The big show will be "Guys and Dolls." I recently
read a synopsis that declared this oddball romantic comedy
was "the perfect musical." Ironically, the popular show has
never been presented on the Lakewood stage.
We will be striving for a bit of perfection when the show
opens in early August. It's a sure bet you're gonna like
it! The July 4th holiday will find the castaways of
"Gilligan's Island" seeking freedom from their sandy
paradise. In this campy adaptation of the television
program, our stalwart seven save the world from aliens. We
will end our season with "Bubba's Revenge," the final
sequel to the smash hit The Honky Tonk Angels. I have heard
that our own honky tonk angel, Nancy Carbone, may return to
the Lakewood stage. Nancy and husband Andy retired to
Florida several years ago and Nancy is actually performing
"The Honky Tonk Angels" with a Florida troupe.

In 1998, we closed our season with "Cash on Delivery." We
have decided to open the 2008 season with this Michael
Cooney
farce. Jeffrey has cast himself in the Doctor Chapman role
(performed originally by Alan Irwin) and he is surrounding
himself with good people. Reprising their roles are: Stan
Pinnette, Mark Nadeau, Robert Keniston, Jayson Smith, and
MJ Clifford. The laughs will continue throughout the summer
months as we present: "At First Sight," "20th Century,"
"Leading Ladies" and "A Nice Family Gathering."

The dramedy of the season will be "Marvin's Room."
"Marvin's Room" won critical acclaim as a
Broadway play and as a movie in 1996. Lakewood's finest
will be eager to pluck one of these juicy roles.

YOU DIRTY RAT!!!
It is the Chinese Year of the Rat. Perhaps this is finally
your year to audition for a role on the famed Lakewood
Theater stage. So stop doing your James Cagney
impersonations only in front of the bathroom mirror, put
down
the grapefruit, and scurry to the Margaret Chase Smith
Elementary School on Heselton Street in Skowhegan. But
don't go today! Wait until Saturday and/or Sunday March 8,
9, 15, and 16. There are parts for 50 men and 34 women.
There are even several parts for women "of a certain age."
We Baby Boomers have the power!

Musical auditions are the first weekend. The seven "Island"
folk and the three men and three women in our country
themed finale, sing solos. In addition to the principal
singers in "Guys and Dolls," there are chorus girls,
gamblers, and an assortment of New Yorkers.
The second weekend, readings are one-on-one with each
director.
Bobby Kenniston will direct "At First Sight." Stan Pinnette
will direct "A Nice Family Gathering." Mark Nadeau will
direct "Marvin's Room." Jeffrey Quinn will direct the other
six shows. For more information and for a synopsis of each
play, visit our website at www.lakewoodtheater.org.

It was a DARK and STORMY NIGHT(S)
The Lakewood Theater Mystery Troupe has a history of bad
weather dates and this season was no exception. On our two
Friday performances, the weather was a major player. We
were undaunted, however, and the shows went on. In a new
twist for us, we needed four "contestants" from the
audience to play our little game. It was the job of Cory
King to maintain order. (What is wrong with that
sentence...) Jeffrey tried to maintain order, but we know
that it was Barbie Demo who kept us all in order. We hope
to offer this mini-musical at the Inn prior to the season
as a fund raiser for Lakewood.

9 - 5 --NOT
Retirement is working for me. However, I am usually a day
off. I think I live on Lakewood time...I am doing a lot of
counted
cross-stitch and even reading books and magazines. Oprah
has me drinking grape juice and munching on walnuts. I have
discovered Yoplait yogurt. I am addicted to "What Not to
Wear" and have purchased four jackets from Coldwater Creek
(on sale and with an additional coupon, of course.) I have
seen a bit of "How to Look Good Naked"--I don't think
so...although I do slather on shea butter. My daily
indulgence is "Judge Judy." I need to start walking when
the ice disappears. I don't do ice--presently I can't even
get to my garage!

R U READY?
You would have to be residing on Gilligan's fair isle not
to know the economy is as gloomy as yesterday's weather. We
New Englanders are not the only people having trouble with
"r" words. But the sun is shining gloriously today. And
there is no "r" in The 2008 Season. Please, help us keep it
that way. For all things Lakewood, call (207) 474-7176 for
information or visit our website at www.lakewoodtheater.org
